first_line1. As I was going over the Kilgary mountain
lyric1. As I was going over the Kilgary mountain
I met Colonel Pepper and his money he was counting.
I drew forth my pistols and I rattled my saber,
saying stand and deliver for I am a bold deceiver.

Ref.: Musha rungum duram da, Whack fol de daddyo,
Whack fol de daddyo, there’s whiskey in the jar.

2. The shining golden coins did sure look bright and jolly,
I took the money home and I gave it to my Molly,
she promised and she vowed that she never would deceive me,
but the Devil’s in the women and they never can be easy.

3. Now when I awakened between six and seven,
guards were standing roound me in numbers odd and even,
I flex to my pistols, but, alas, I was mistaken,
for I fired off my pistols and a prisoner was taken.

4. They put me in jail without judge or writing,
for robbing Colonel Pepper on Kilgary Mountain,
but they didn’t take my fists, so I knocked down the sentry
and I bid a long farewell to the Judge in Sligo town.

5. Some take dellight in fishing and bowliing,
others take delight in the carriage a-rolling,
but I take delight in the juice of the barley,
courting pretty girls in the morning so early.

___

As I was goig over, the Kilmagenny mountain,
I met my Captain Farwell and his money he was counting.
I first produced me pistol, and then I drew my sabre,
saying ’Stand and deliver for I am a bold deceiver.

Chorus:
With me ring dum a doodle um dah,
whack fol the daddy o,
whack the daddy o,
there’s whiskey in the jar.

He counted out his money and it made a pretty penny,
I put it in my pocket and I gave it to my Jenny.
She sighed and she swore that she never would betray me
But the devil take the women for they never can be easy
CHORUS
I went into my chamber all for to take a slumber
I dreamt of gold and jewels and for sure it was no wonder
But Jenny drew my charges and she filled them up with water
And she sent for Captain Farrell to be ready for the slaughter
CHORUS
And ’twas early in the morning before I rose to travel
Up comes a band of footmen and likewise Captain Farrell;
I then produced my pistol, for she stole my sabre,
But I couldn‘t shoot the water, so a prisoner I was taken.
CHORUS

And if anyone can aid me, its my brother in the army
If I could learn his station in Cork or in Killarney,
And if he’d come and join me, we‘d go roving in Kilkenny
I’ll engage he’ll treat me fairer than my darling sporting Jenny.
CHORUS
